Hello everyone,

we are currently testing some OPC communications over DCOM with the MatrikonOPC Server for Simulation (DA).

The OPC Server is running on his own machine and we are able to connect to the server via the MatrikonOPC Explorer -remotely. We now started to code a simple OPC Client in C++ - and to avoid the OPCEnum - Calls, we want to call the Server directly - because we do not need to search the entire network.

At this point we found out, that the "easiest" way would be to register the OPCServer on the local machine. What entries do we have to make? Other OPCServer do have a ".reg" file for this - is there a registry-file available for MatrikonOPC Server for Sim? Or do we have to move to another one?

Kind regards,

MatrikonOPC does not offer a remote registry tool. The best and easiest way around these sorts of issues (DCOM) is to use the MatrikonOPC Tunneller on both the OPC Client and OPC Server machines. Tunneller wraps up the DCOM communications into a single TCP port and therefore is firewall friendly. It also provides automatic reconnection and therefore makes your system more robust. Tunneller registers Program IDs in the local registry so your application thinks that it is connecting to an OPC Server on the local machine.
